History of viruses |
Computer scientist John von Neumann shed light on this in 1949, long before computer virus programs were written. From his concept of self-replicating programs emerged the virus program (not called a virus then). American computer scientist Frederick B. Cohen first referred to this type of computer program as a virus for reproducibility. In the living world, viruses can reproduce themselves in the host's body.
Virus programs can also make copies of themselves. In the 1970s, a virus called the Creeper virus was identified in the early days of the Internet, the ARPANET. At that time, another software called Reaper was developed, which could delete the creeper virus. At that time the virus was confined to the place where it originated.
In 1982, ELK Cloner spread all over the world through the use of floppy disks. However, the destructive behavior of viruses was first revealed by the brain virus, in 1986. Two Pakistani brothers developed this virus software in Lahore. Since then, every year numerous viruses have been created around the world. Among the world's most harmful viruses and malware are Brain, Vienna, Jerusalem, Pingpong, Michael Angelo, Dark Avenger, CIH (Chernobyl), Anakurnikova, Code Red Worm, Nimda, Daprosi Worm, etc.
