Isaac Newton was a British physicist. About three hundred years ago, he made great contributions to many topics such as motion, gravity and light. Newton was also very good at mathematics. German mathematicians Leibniz and Newton are considered the inventors of calculus. Newton was a scientist skilled in theoretical and practical experiments at the same time. His ideas on motion and gravitation were purely theoretical, but on many matters of light he proved much by direct experiment. As scientists' works are now published through scientific journals, this was not the case three centuries ago. Then some people wrote books and published their work. Newton wrote a book called 'Philosophy Naturalis Principia Mathematica'. This groundbreaking book written in Latin is known as "Mathematica".
