Malware |
Among the common and detected malware, the following three types of malware are most common:
a. Computer virus
b. Computer worms
c. Trojan horse
The differences in infection are more important than the behavioral differences between computer viruses and worms. A computer virus is a type of malware, which is associated with an executable file. When that program (executable file) is run, the virus automatically infects other executable files. A computer worm, on the other hand, is a program that spreads across a network and infects other computers. That is, computer viruses cannot spread without user intervention (even if unwittingly). For example, a computer virus cannot spread if there is a file infected with a pen drive. Only the pen drive virus can become active if the pen drive is connected to a computer and used. Worms, on the other hand, spread themselves from network to network and infect computers on the network.
Malware's purpose is successful only when it cannot be identified as malicious software. That's why many malicious software hide themselves under the guise of good software. A user uses it in good faith. This is the modus operandi of the Trojan horse. Whenever the incognito software is launched, the Trojan executes and destroys the user's files or imports new Trojans.
